Here are my top picks for autumn/winter trends I think will be huge this season.
Skirts + Trousers

A classic 90’s trend recently experiencing a very modern reboot, the trouser skirt duo (if styled correctly) could be the chicest look of the season.
Recently seen in Saint Laurent and Versace’s runway shows I believe this trend could be making a comeback this autumn. While not to everyone’s taste I love it. It gives the illusion of an longer torso extending lines that would end at the hip to the mid thigh while preventing the illusion of shorter legs (like in most drop waist looks and the dreaded low rise jeans) as it accentuates the waist as the skirt starts at the waistline bringing the line of the legs higher giving the illusion of extending them.
To avoid the ‘2007 Disney channel look’ keep the look sleek: think clean lines, minis, tailored fit trousers (skinny/bootcut) and refined materials. To keep the look sophisticated ensure the trousers + skirt are the same material or pattern.

Statement Tights

A reoccurring trend in current catwalks is statement tights. Popularised by Mary Quant in the 1960’s and repopularized by Gianni Versace in the 1990’s its due for a comeback.
There are many ways to incorporate statement tights into outfits my favourite being Versace style monochromatic outfits i.e. purple dress, purple tights. either in the same shade or a different tone of the same colour its a simple but effective way to elevate a basic outfit.
For a more 60’s look try patterned tights, a classic print like dogtooth or modernise it by wearing a ‘logo-mania’ print like the newly released ‘La Greca’ print by Versace or a GG Gucci monogram print. For a bold sophisticated look pair with clothes in the same print: to add some depth to the look experiment with different sizes of the same print I.e. a dress with an oversized dogtooth print with micro dogtooth tights.

70’s Bohemia

The 70’s bohemian aesthetic is very en vogue this season think Stevie Nicks. Look to brands like Coach, Chloe and Etro for inspiration. Look for warm earthy tones and pair with some orange and turquoise as complimentary tones. For textures and materials think embroidery, tapestry, shearling, corduroy and leather. The prize coat of the season being any variation of a penny lane coat: from saks potts to urban outfitters to real vintage so 70’s yet so modern. Pair with ‘washed out’ Dakota Johnson style flared jeans or the corduroy flares from free people.
A complimentary patterned blouse in a tapestry or floral print would also pair nicely. Heavily patterned duster jackets and embroidered cropped vests also make great bohemian layering pieces and can be styled for summer aswell.

Metallic trench coats

Seen on Serena Van Der Woodsen, Zendaya, Margot Robbie and the Burberry AW 21 catwalk Metallic trench coats could be a new wardrobe staple. The classic trench coat given a modern day to night twist. It’s a great statement piece for shy dressers as it’s incredibly striking while still being elegant and easy to style. I’d style it monochromatic and pair it with gold flares for a dramatic night look or dress it down with relaxed jeans for a chic day time look.
Midi Cami slip dresses
Minimalist slip dresses are great investment buy and one of the few pieces I believe can be worn all year round. Im personally not a fan of cowl neck slip dresses as I feel there a little dated and a v-neck or lace trim neckline have a more modern chicer look. A great layering piece for autumn I’d style it with military boots for a bit of contrast and a short statement jacket to define the waist I’m aware it’s a simple look but it’s so effective. I am absolutely in love with the dusty pink slip by atelierLenaZh on Etsy (seen in centre) it gives me Bond girl vibes it’s a must have!

‘Dad Suits’

The ‘Dad suit’ or the ‘Boyfriend Suit’: I first saw it on Matilda Djerf and I’ve been looking for the right one ever since… It’s a perfect relaxed but unique style that is so versatile. What sets apart this style from literally stealing your dad’s old suit is the fit & the material. The suit must fit on the waist (an easy adjustment to make) & it must not be too oversized on the shoulders the rest can be oversized but if these are wrong it throws the proportions of the outfit off balance and becomes very unflattering. The material has to be good quality light but not flimsy which is why I wouldn’t recommend going for a cheaper suit instead I would recommend shopping second hand for a men’s suit and having it tailored: one of a kind, bespoke fit & environmentally friendly.
However I do believe these suits have a staying power because of their versatility and if you do want to invest I’d recommend buying from the woman herself – Djerf Avenue have a great range of suits in this style! (Average price £253.34)
